Mojave Desert Memorial

This is a copy of a letter sent by the Free Market Foundation:

August 12,2009
Dear Kenneth,

The battle is coming from all directions-government take-over of healthcare, Cap and Trade, a new "hate crimes" bill, and much more. We are battling for our freedoms on every level, and I have good news to report.

The Oral argumet in the Mojave Desert Memorial Cross Case has just been set in the U.S. Supreme Court for October 7, 2009. As we have reported, this case involves a memorial placed in the desert in 1934 by World War I veterans to honor those who had given their lives for their country. A court has ordered that the memorial be torn down, only because it is in the shape of a cross. We represent over 4 million veterans and are telling the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) "absolutely not."

The good news is that not only has the oral argument been set, but we also have started an effort to let Americans know about this case and what the ACLU is trying to do. With only a little seed money, we kicked off a campaign just before Memorial Day; the results have already exceeded anything we could have imagined--more than 1.4 million views of the video on the case and over 115,000 petition signatures to be given to veterans groups in support.
As a result, ABC News National and major newspapers are now calling us on the case.

The ACLU is responding. I have enclosed what they and some of their supporters have said to us or posted on YouTube for the case, http://donttearmedown.com. It's an unbelievable campaign!

As I mentioned, we have just started on this to let people know about this important case and expose the ACLU, but we won't be able to move further without help. Additionally, we just filed legal motions with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case to make sure the veterans are heard during argument (the Obama administration currently controls this). With only two months to go, it is crucial that we are able to finish this case at full capacity. We are in a battle with the ACLU nationally in The Supreme Court, in our media and in culture. Will you consider helping with the $250,000 we need to continue fighting and to win this important battle in a case that will not only impact this memorial, but all memorials nationwide?

This case will be talked about for years to come. It would be a privilege to have you join the effort.
God bless you.
Sincerely,

Kelly Shackelford, President

P.S. We just had two arguments at the Federal Court of Appeals which will affect students' rights to share their faith at school. Please pray and we will keep you updated.
